COSPLAY
Zidane Tribal - Started daggers. Bought fabric, some stuff started others waiting to be dyed.
Junpei Ioori - All done save for belt buckle and SEES armband.
Secret Soul Eater Cosplay - Sewing started.

So I just released an odd sort of paradox I've been facing lately. As a cosplayer in school for professional costuming... Something strange happens.

People I know from the cosplay world tend to say things like "Wow! You're in school for costuming? Now your cosplays can be so much better!" Which I understand is meant as a compliment but it really doesn't feel that way. It feels almost as if they are belittling my course by saying so, since I'm spending over $8K for this schooling to lead me into a career. Costuming is serious business, unlike cosplay, so when people think I'm taking the course to improve my cosplay, it hurts a bit. (although the improvement to cosplay is a perk... not gonna lie.)

Now on the opposite side of this... People I know who have/are working in the industry usually think of cosplay as a joke. Understanding of course, these are professional costume makers, they don't see cosplaying as anything other than a bunch of kids trying to make costumes. So basicaly, when I say I cosplay the reaction is usually "Oh, that's cute." or something similar. Thta goes without saying that it was my cosplays in my portfolio that whisked me into my course (and a schloarship).

Interesting, cosplayers think of my course as "Yay! Better cosplay!" and the professionals think "Oh, those kids trying to make costumes :3"

Ha, I find it amusing. I find myself in the middle xD

Anyways. My vacation is over and Im back at the school :3 And I got barely any work done at my cosplays (Ahh!). Save for my Junpei is almost done, save for the armband and a proper belt and buckle, and I figure those both can wait. I don't really need the SEES armband right off the bat, sicne I don't see myself visiting Tartarus anytime soon.. (toothpaste!)

Bought most of Zidane's materials. Going to dye and discharge a bunch of fabric. Agh. Why do I do this to myself?!

Oh well.

Will post a progress of Junpei soon, and something I really should have posted before...

I get people telling me all the time that as a video games designer I get to play games all day long. As for cosplay, there are cosplays that are a match to any pro costumes I've seen (I used to be involved in theater and TV), and in fact some of them beat the living daylights out of most pro-costumes, while of course vast majority of cosplays are not on the same level as pro costumes. In the end, it is all down to individuals. I find it that people make gross generalizations on any subject they don't know of personally.

Yup, it's strange being in the middle. Seeing both sides.

And I've heard the gaming one too ;D My friends have always thought my dad plays video games for a living xD

B-but, if we go somewhere else we will both have beards! And if anyone asks we can tell them its beard day, and act all freaked out that they don't know xD

We had a lecture today on how in this semester we'll be marked on "proffesionalism" and how it's what will be looked at when we enter the industry.
Mitchell then told us how no one cares about our marks, just what we can do. And we all laughed cause we know it as well.

I do find it funny though when people assume I'll have amazing cosplays because of what I'm learning in school, but mine aren't really all that good XD
It is really funny to see both sides though.

On the topic of school for this semester, did Jane talk to your class today about films? Cause she told us which ones we're all on and when they're shooting, and guess who's I've got for my team?!

Laaaaaawl well maybee then >u>
But that means we gotta stick together! *gets out the hand cuffs* xD

Yeah I know XD

Jane was saying how we're the designers and you're our underlings, and I just started to laugh XD
It'll probably end up as more of a group effort depending how swamped I am with Japan stuff, and me giving you stuff to do. I was super excited though ^^

I've got like the best underlings ever, cause I don't think I could've asked for anyone better, and it's not really underling-y when you're both taller than me is it?

And yeah ^^' we took Miko out for lunch cause it was her birthday today ^^ so we left once we were done class since none of us really took a break in the 6 hours we'd been there.
I'll be there ALL day tomorrow though so you're welcome to come bug us at some point if you like, as long as I get my hat done it's probably not a problem if I take a short break around lunch for snacking. ;p Cause I want to talk to you two too. (even though I've still yet to hear anything scriptwise other than the title and that there's a magician)
